The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Good Fats, Bad Fats, and Malicious Deception
By Barbara Gormlie
The good healthy fats our ancestors ate are now being said to cause heart disease and cancer. We are being told that there is correlation between high fat intake and breast cancer and colon cancer and coronary artery disease. Yet, these diseases were almost non-existent in the early 1900’s. You can trace the increases in both cancers and heart disease and the introduction of hydrogenated fats and oils into our diets, along with the dietary decrease of healthy grass fed meats, real butter and cream.
Many studies have been done and data is often conflicting, manipulated and certainly not conclusive when addressing a negative impact that animal fats have on human health. Yet it is presented to the public as fact and used to influence buying habits of the American public. Meanwhile a whole category of foods that pass themselves off as natural contain unhealthy chemically altered hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils that have substituted nutritious qualities for longer shelf life. Once again we are beguiled by those concerns that that stand to make a huge profit promulgating the vegetable oil theory as healthy. A 1994 study appearing in the Lancet showed that almost three quarters of the fat in artery clogs is unsaturated. The "artery clogging" fats are not animal fats but vegetable oils.”1
There are documented accounts of studies refuting this bogus vegetable oil theory that have been defunded and the authors blackballed, or their conclusions ignored or relegated to some government or university basement file. One particular early researcher who touted vegetable oil as the new healthy oil later refuted his original study with evidence of the ‘new oils’ deleterious effects, but that study never made it to the mainstream press. So why are we getting the push to consume hydrogenated fats and oils that are killing us? Why is margarine being touted as the better choice in standard nutrition classes? Why did the FDA, in 1973 override the Imitation Food Policy?
The revised regulations defined "inferiority" as any reduction in content of an essential nutrient that is present at a level of two percent or more of the US Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA). The new “imitation policy” meant that imitation sour cream, made with vegetable oil and fillers like guar gum and carrageenan, need not be labeled imitation as long as artificial vitamins were added to bring macro nutrient levels up to the same amounts as those in real sour cream. Coffee creamers, imitation egg mixes, processed cheeses and imitation whipped cream no longer required the imitation label, but could be sold as real and beneficial foods, low in cholesterol and rich in polyunsaturates.2 So, now manufactures can simply put synthetic vitamins into any nutritionally empty food- like substance and avoid labeling it imitation, even though it is molecularly more plastic than it is real food.
These changes took place without the consent of Congress. This trend continues even today as we see the collusion of the FDA and big business. Agendas are promoted by lobbyists for big business regardless of the imminent dangers to the public. Public interest takes second seat to profit these days. Does this sound familiar? Think Aspartame! With increased lobbying clout special interest groups can push ahead with any self-serving agenda they can think up. This is how the myth of healthy oils replaced the good fats in the American diet. The public had no input and probably very few even knew it happened. After a while even fewer questioned the validity.
Government contracts for soybeans and corn from which these unhealthy oils are derived are big business and they not about to admit that the products that are making them rich are also destroying the health of the public. The vegetable oil industry is hugely profitable. Pharmaceutical companies are piggybacking on the vegetable oil industry and its harmful effects. Pharmaceutical companies are not going to admit that the cholesterol lowering drugs (from which the profits are filling their coffers) are harming the public. In fact both are served by the public consumption of this dangerous food. Many invested interests are getting rich off the ignorance of those who do not question, read or think on their own. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of being informed. The following web address will give you more in depth information and I encourage you to read it: http://www.natural-health-information-centre.com/hydrogenated-fats.html.

Toxic Toothpaste
Most brand name toothpastes that even your traditional dentist will recommend contain a variety of toxic chemicals that should not be put in your mouth. Just take a look on the side of the package and you will see warnings that say it isn't safe to swallow.
Some of these toxins may include fluoride, sodium lauryl sulfate, saccharin, sorbitol, aspartame, methylparabens, ethylparabens, titanium dioxide, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, FD & C Blue No 1, and tricloscan. Contrary to popular belief, fluoride does not prevent tooth decay, it is such a potent chemical that at one time it was frequently used in rat poison, tricloscan is a pesticide, sodium laurly sulphate is a foaming detergent, artificial sweeteners have been linked to numerous health conditions and parabens are known carcinogens.
The tissue and membranes in your mouth are very permeable and these toxins can be easily absorbed into your body through your mouth and result in a variety of detrimental effects to our health including cancer and death.
There are a variety of natural and non-toxic toothpastes on the market. Take your time to educate yourself, read the labels thoroughly and choose a toothpaste that is safe and healthy for you www.hsibaltimore.com
