How Important Are Minerals in Your Diet?

building immune systemThe concept of mineral balance implies that all of the elements must be available to the cells of all living things in adequate amounts for the organism to function optimally. This applies to everything from the smallest virus to the largest whale. Dr. William Albrecht understood this essential concept of life early in the nineteenth century, and tried to communicate it via many articles directed at educating everyone from the farmer to the end consumer of food.  If the soil our food is grown in is not in balance, our food will not contain the proper amount or variety of minerals they normally deliver. When this happens, we do not obtain what we need in the way of minerals to nourish our cells.

Our body is formed one cell at a time and is a compilation of many different kinds of cells.  Different cells perform different functions as directed by their DNA.  The process begins with the DNA giving an instruction to the cell to create an enzyme that will be assembled using amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein.  They come from the food you eat.  Once an enzyme is assembled, it must be activated or turned on.  This can only be accomplished with the attachment of an atom of a particular mineral to the enzyme.  The atom must be in its individual and separate ionic state to be useable.  When the mineral is attached, the enzyme is catalyzed or activated similar to completing an electrical circuit.  The cell can then perform the specific function the enzyme has evolved to do.  A good example of this is your heart.  This organization of cells must beat consistently throughout your life.  In order to do this it must contract and relax about 60 times a minute or once a second.  The mineral required to stimulate the heart cells to contract is potassium.  The mineral required to make the heart cells relax is magnesium.  These two minerals must be in constant supply in your heart tissues or your heart cannot beat and you will die (as in a sudden death heart attack).  These two mineral elements are rapidly consumed during physical or emotional stress.  This is why electrolyte formulas are so important to consume during physical exercise and it is so important to keep in touch with your emotional stresses.

Now imagine all of the other things your body must do every second of every day via the assembly and activation of these cellular enzymes in order to maintain itself.  For every enzyme made, there are one or more mineral elements required to make it work.

If the cell is lacking a proper compliment of the right minerals, it cannot efficiently perform its role in the body. Homeostasis must be maintained at all costs; therefore the body will take minerals from any available source within the body. If a particular mineral is unavailable due to depletion, the body will use a substitute mineral that may not provide the needed assistance. Eventually, the organ (or organ system) functions sub- optimally.  This is manifested in what we define as disease (dis-ease).  If enough cells malfunction for a long enough time, the entire organism will be unable to sustain itself.  This is known as death.

This discussion all leads back to the concept of mineral balance for organism longevity, with optimal health and wellness.  The only two natural ways to deliver these essential minerals to our tissues and cells is via the water we drink and the food we eat.  If either of these delivery methods is lacking these essential elements, the cell cannot get what it needs.  Today in the U.S. you can rest assured that you are not getting anywhere near the necessary compliment of all of these essential mineral elements from your food and water.  This situation arises from the condition of the soils in which our foods are grown.  We are eating trace mineral depleted foods and depriving our cells of the proper amount and balance of essential mineral elements. Our waters are polluted and chemically treated and resultant purified version that is drinkable is devoid of many needed minerals.

Until something fundamentally changes with current farming practices, you can be assured you will continue to be lacking in your minerals.  This is why Eidon has developed our hair mineral analysis program.  We have taken the knowledge of mineral nutrition pioneers such as William Albrecht, Paul Eck, Bernard Jenson, and Lawrence Wilson and combined it with the “hands on” practical knowledge of Jack Grogan to create the Eidon Mineral Balancing System. You now have at your disposal an inexpensive tool to reveal your current tissue mineral status, and provide information and direction as to the mineral supplements your body needs in order to rebalance.
