Ditch the Drugs, America!

Ditch the Drugs, America!

It seems more unbelievable each time I read the latest information about the drugging of Americans. The prevailing subterfuge on the part of big pharma is alarming. Are we such an apathetic society that we no longer take personal responsibility for the quality of our lives? Have we become so blind to the fact that by allowing another to take control of our health or lack of it, we hand over our will as well? Why are we allowing our children to be drugged and our elderly to think they need 10 or more prescriptions to stay alive

According to statistics from the Kaiser Health Foundationi, the average American adult, aged 19 to 64, now takes more than 11 prescription drugs. So while polypharmacy used to be primarily a concern for seniors—who, on average fill more than 31 prescriptions per year—polypharmacy now applies to virtually everyone, including children and toddlers, whose drug use now averages out to four or more drugs per child!

The person who does not take medication is now the exception rather than the norm. We have the ability to eat good healthy food and to access more information than ever about exercise and calming our minds. Are we choosing to believe the rhetoric of others and assume that they know our bodies better than we do, rather than do our own research? It is past time that we question what is going on in our lives that we need to rely on a pill for everything. Are we moving ever closer to George Orwell’s novel, 1984? Read the following quote from the novel and decide for yourself.

“… The whole climate of thought will be different. In fact, there will be no thought, as we understand it now. Orthodoxy means not thinking-not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.”

We are being blindsided by the monetary motives of those who would rather pad their pocket than see the population thrive. We are not thriving we are barely hanging on at this point if we need 11 prescriptions to get us through the day. Just think of the fear and anxiety that this situation incurs if we run out of pills or the pharmacy is closed or our insurance no longer covers the particular drug? We have become the surfs of the pharmaceutical industry.

It is way past time to question the why of these latest statistics and get back to the reality of being our own best judge of our health needs. Wake up America! You are sicker and more obese than ever. You have access to the means to be healthier but it takes personal responsibility and will power to opt for that piece of fruit or those fresh veggies rather than a fast food burger and brownie.

Once you are dedicated to being healthier and making healthier choices it is an empowering feeling and the benefits are so great.
