Based on logic and available research, I believe the seaweeds of the planet’s oceans are the most complete food on earth. Seaweeds contain a well-balanced mineral, vitamin, complex sugar and healthy fatty acid content. Given that the ocean is the birthplace of life as we know it, and the exposure to the mineral nutrient solution is the source of healthy and vibrant ocean life, ocean derived plant life is the most likely way we can effectively obtain a complete nutrient balance; not only for all land based animals but for plants as well.
The following is a summary of the constituents of seaweeds and our current understanding of their importance in human health and nutrition.
BSE, which is naturally occurring in the sea, contains all of the essential mineral elements required for life and optimal health. Seawater is a solution closely resembling our blood in mineral content. BSE is rich in Iodine and Selenium as well- being more highly concentrated than even normal seawater. Eidon is a manufacturer of liquid mineral supplements. Consequently, distributing a naturally occurring food concentrate rich in an optimal blend of minerals is a very logical step for us.
Iodine and selenium are quite abundant in seaweed, more so than even the seawater they grow in. This is quite ironic, as we now know that both of these minerals rarely occur in necessary amounts in land-based soils and consequently the fruits and vegetables we normally consume. This contrasts with the essential requirement for both of these elements for optimal health. We also know how essential they both are for heavy metal detoxification and exposure to radioactive iodine I-131. The most toxic heavy metals are mercury and lead. Iodine and selenium are both effective at eliminating these elements from the tissues and cells of our bodies.
Seaweeds are also an excellent source of our mineral electrolytes, potassium, magnesium, sodium, and chloride that are so important in maintaining proper cellular osmotic balance and heart and nerve function.
Seaweeds also contain a full component of all of the known water and fat-soluble vitamins including B-12.
3. PROTEINS (AMINO ACIDS)
Seaweed is also a good source of the essential amino acids. Essential amino acids are those we cannot manufacture ourselves and therefore must eat. Another source of plant based essential amino acids is obtained by combining whole grain rice and beans. Alternatively, you can eat meat.
4. FATS (FATTY ACIDS)
Fats are an essential part of a healthy diet. While also available by eating meat, plants also contain good sources of the fats essential for good health. Eidon BSE is an excellent delivery mechanism for a healthy balance of the unsaturated fatty acids.
Polysaccharides are complex and essential sugars not to be confused with refined sugars found in almost every processed food manufactured today and responsible for many of our health issues we face today. Breaking down these polysaccharides further, we find active and essential levels of the following: galactans, fucoidans, laminarin and alginates. They occur in different amounts within the tissues of the seaweeds depending on the species, area, and temperature of the water where they are grown. The most prevalent polysaccharide found in brown seaweed is Fucoidan – a sulfated polysaccharide. One of the many biological effects of these molecules is related to its ability to change the surface property of cells. Fucoidan has antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and anti-oxidative properties. A proper dietary intake of these compounds is important for intercellular communication especially associated with the death of a cell.
6. THYROID SUPPORT
Brown seaweed extract is very effective in supplying the body with the thyroid hormones T4 and T3. It is the only known plant that makes these thyroid hormones. It is also effective at helping the body detoxify itself of Dioxins and PCBs as well as other toxic substances in addition to the heavy metals, all of which have a detrimental impact on thyroid function.
It is an effective prebiotic, capable of acting as good food for the essential probiotics found in the gastro-intestinal tract. All in all, Brown Seaweed Extract may be one if not the most complete food available to humans when it comes to supplying all of the above nutrients. This is why we are now carrying this concentrated food supplement.
8. RADIATION AND GI TRACT DETOXIFICATION
Russians developed the current processing method during the Cold War as they were working at keeping those working in electronic surveillance of the US from becoming ill and non-productive or dying from radiation exposure. At this time it was also discovered that this food was also excellent as a general overall GI tract detoxification and cleansing supplement.
9. PROCESSING AND DOSAGE
Each capsule delivers 500 mgs of concentrated kelp. While the recommended daily dose is 3 capsules equaling 1500 mgs by weight, there is no truly optimal dose. We are all different and have different levels if toxicity and therefore different needs. It is up to each of us to monitor how we feel taking this potent food and adjusting our intake accordingly.
The processing method actually concentrates this food by a factor of 40/1 therefore requiring much less to be consumed than would be nutritionally available by eating the plant in its whole natural state.
Eidon BSE is not just dried and powdered kelp harvested off of the west coast of the US or east coast of Asia, both areas being heavily populated and therefore subject to pollution. Kelp can only grow and flourish in colder coastal water up to a maximum depth of 100 to 120 feet of water. In order to provide our customer with an optimal purity, we have chosen the coastal waters off of southeastern South America. These waters are cold and pristine with no human pressure. The kelp is sustainably harvested, dried and then shipped to the US. Here it is rehydrated, skinned, and then dried using cold dehydration and ground into easily digestible, concentrated powder (40:1). While available in the powdered form, we have elected to encapsulate the powder as many people have difficulty with the strong seaweed flavor of the straight powder. Using this process concentrates the nutrient value of the kelp without damaging any of the nutrients or naturally occurring digestive enzymes. This process is what creates a higher price point than other seaweed extracts. The consumer is getting excellent quality and content from their investment.
Each capsule delivers 500 MGS of concentrated kelp. While the recommended daily dose is 3 capsules equaling 1500 MGS by weight, there is truly no standardized dose. It is up to each of us to monitor how we feel taking this potent food and adjusting our intake accordingly.
